John Neuton, born c. 1350, was a canon of York from 1385 until his death in 1414. His bequest of books to York Minster was a catalyst for the creation of a library building to house the cathedral's book collection, recreating a scholarly resource lost by the destruction of Alcuin's library in the ninth century. The legacy of Neuton's bequest continues to this day.
