1414: John Neuton and the Re-Foundation of York Minster Library

The 1418 roll records Thomas Haxey, canon of York from 1405 until his death in 1425 and one of Neuton’s executors, giving money for roofing the library. It also records the abbot of Selby giving trees from the wood of Hambleton for the library. They were sawn and carried to the River Ouse, on which they were shipped to York before being taken by sledge to the archbishop's palace, to the north of the Minster.
